Signs to stop using the door
- Visible frayed, kinked, or slack cable on either side
- Door sits noticeably lower or tilts to one side
- Door moved off the track or is visibly misaligned
- Loud bang followed by a door that won't move or feels very heavy
- Cable appears to have come off the drum
How the service works
Stop use — describe what you see
Stop operating the door immediately. Keep people, pets, and vehicles clear of the opening. When you call or request service, tell us: which side the cable is on, whether the door is open or closed, whether a vehicle is inside, and what you heard or saw before it stopped working. This helps us plan the visit.
Inspection and quote
We inspect both cables, the drums, rollers, track alignment, and spring balance. A cable failure on one side often reveals wear on the other side or a related spring issue. We explain what we found and give you a written quote before touching anything.
Approved repair and safety check
We only proceed with approved work. After the repair, we check door balance, movement, and the applicable opener safety functions. We confirm the door is operating correctly before we leave.
What we inspect
- Both lift cables — condition, tension, and drum seating
- Cable drums — wear, groove condition, and set-screw security
- Rollers — wear and engagement in the track
- Track alignment — bends, gaps, and bracket security
- Spring balance — whether a spring failure caused the cable issue
- Bottom bracket and bottom seal condition
- Whether the door has moved off-track as a result of the cable failure

Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I pull the emergency release to move the door manually?
Do not pull the emergency release on a damaged, unsupported, or partly open door. The release disconnects the opener from the door — on a door with a failed cable or spring, the door may fall or move unpredictably. Leave the door where it is and arrange service.
Should both cables be replaced at the same time?
It depends on the condition and age of both cables. If one cable has failed and the other shows significant wear, replacing both at the same time is often the more practical choice. We explain the condition of both cables and the cost of each option during the inspection.
My door is off-track. Can I push it back on myself?
Do not attempt to force a door back onto the track. The door is under spring tension and can move suddenly. Forcing it can bend the track, damage the panels, or cause injury. Arrange professional service.
What caused the cable to break?
Cables fail from wear, corrosion, fraying at the drum or bottom bracket, or from operating against a broken spring. We identify the cause during the inspection so the underlying issue is addressed, not just the visible symptom.
How long does cable repair take?
Timing depends on the diagnosis, parts availability, and whether related components need attention. We confirm the expected work window for your specific job after the inspection.
